Brothers Russell and Geoffrey lived / worked at the mill in Mill Rd.
Behind Russell is the only remaining part of the mill.
Russell’s name is remembered in Russell Close – far end of Hackney Rd – which is a piece of land he sold (cheaply) to developers making the housing estate.
Russell also acquired the land for the Recreation ground (nr Sibton White Horse) which he gave to the village (in a Trust). He also bought the land for the bowling green, but afterwards didn’t have much time for bowling as he invested his energies in the Youth Club.
The Recreation ground was the home for 4 village football teams!
